Concord Cup Invitation and Waiting List Policy

August 23, 1999 - Updated for 2007

The Concord Cup is very grateful for the continued support and attendance of its players. By consensus, we currently believe that we should not expand beyond twenty-four players in one competition. Some reasons include the limited time during the weekend to play 54 holes, the mechanics associated with organizing the group, the hope for a friendly competition in which most people know each other fairly well, and a sense for what makes a close competition.

It is our hope that the following policy will identify a fair method for inviting people to future events:

  1. Each year, there are a maximum of twenty-four spots.  However, every effort will be made to arrange for a number evenly divisible by four.
  2. Each year, the players will be ranked by seniority. Seniority will mean the number of matches played in the three previous Concord Cup events.  In the event of a tie, the matches played in five years will be considered, and then the player who has played in the most recent event will be ranked ahead of the other player. In the event of a further tie, a coin will be flipped.
  3. The first sixteen members of the list will be invited. Players will be required to confirm their attendance more than one month prior to the event.  Additional players will be invited conditionally to bring the field to twenty or twenty-four.
  4. If any invited player cannot attend, the next player on the list will be invited.
  5. If all players from the seniority list are invited, and more players are needed, the waiting list will be used, in order.
  6. Every effort will be made to keep people on the same team. If teams are unbalanced in terms of numbers, then "seniority" for one team and relative team strength will be considered.
